We are looking for an experienced health and fitness editor to focus on the creation of commerce content for CNN's reviews and recommendations site, CNN Underscored. Tasked with assigning, editing and writing articles around the health, fitness and wellness space, this person will help CNN Underscored’s readers find all the products they need to live their best and healthiest lives. Broad product knowledge in this space, experience interviewing experts as well as hands-on product review and testing experience and a strong editorial background is vital. You should know all the latest trends in the health and fitness space as well as tried-and-true products to produce stories catered to CNN’s audience, particularly a more mature audience who is looking for products to help them be more comfortable in every part of their lives. This role works as part of the lifestyle commerce team to research and develop coverage of the health and fitness space including new launches, product reviews, testing for our Best of coverage, shooting video, working with the social team on relevant coverage and liaising with the core site on coverage. The editor will also work with both SEO and data teams to continue to build upon previous successes in order to expand our coverage and reach in the health and fitness space. The editor will work closely with the senior lifestyle editor and editorial director to develop strategies for creating and updating health and fitness content across CNN platforms, including evergreen, trending and seasonal content. Assign, edit and write articles surrounding the best products in the health and fitness space, including one-off reviews, tested roundups and expert recommended stories. Work with junior staff writers and editors to provide guidance and edits to stories so they are in top editing shape. Work with PR and brand contacts to help secure exclusive offers for our readers. Work with the senior lifestyle editor to creatively expand the health and wellness vertical, improving and updating existing content and pitching new stories and sub verticals. Ability to write with authority to AP copy style. Regularly brainstorm new series and story ideas that cater to CNN’s audience, with a particular emphasis on the needs of a more mature audience and a keen eye on using data to inform story pitches. Communicate with SEO team to ensure our stories comply with SEO guidance. Edit images in Photoshop to comply with our style guide. Take video of footage of relevant stories to complement the copy. Keep an eye on social trends (particularly IG/FB/TikTok). Experiment regularly to boost traffic and conversion rates. Familiar with the latest digital commerce trends. Strong grasp of the Underscored audience and voice. Work is subject to supervisory review at regular intervals. Operates within the context of defined procedures. Qualifications & Experience: 4-5 years experience writing and editing reviews for a major consumer publication. Deep knowledge of the latest health and fitness consumer news. Excels at short, medium, and long-term assignments that often require the application of independent judgment. Must have significant experience in the consumer products landscape. Should have an interest in ecommerce and an understanding of SEO principles and technique. Flawless grammar & spelling. Must be comfortable using content management systems and project management software. Strong creative and writing skills are required for this position. Must be detail oriented, organized and have strong communication skills.
