Summary The Audiology Health Technician positions are designed to assist audiologists in meeting the clinical needs of the patient population served in the clinic. Each technician functions as a member of the Audiology staff to provide healthcare support, interacting directly with veteran patients and their families in various settings. Duties Health technicians are responsible for routine repairs of hearing aids, meeting with veterans to troubleshoot and repair hearing aids during clinic hours. Duties include: Evaluating hearing aid function and fit, including listening checks, visual inspections, battery changes, cleaning, earwax removal, and counseling veterans on proper use. Preparing hearing aids for manufacturer repairs, including paperwork, packaging, and shipping. Recording all repair and maintenance activities in the clinic's tracking system. Resetting programmable hearing aids and making minor programming adjustments under supervision. Performing minor repairs on external components and shells, and ensuring electroacoustic output compliance. Determining patient needs for loaner aids and assistive devices, ordering devices, and instructing patients on their use. Managing hearing aid and ALD stock, including refurbishment and maintenance of loaner aids. Maintaining audiology equipment, including daily checks and cleaning. Handling patient communications regarding hearing aids and assistive devices, scheduling, and triage of repair needs. Serving as a liaison with manufacturers and supporting the audiology team in developing training programs. Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Requirements include: Six months of related experience OR Two years of college above high school OR Combination of experience and education. Transcripts are required if education is used to qualify. Grade Determination GS-7 requires one year of progressive experience or equivalent, demonstrating skills such as mentoring, preparing patients for advanced testing, and developing program roles. Physical Requirements Light lifting, reaching, finger dexterity, visual and color perception, hearing, and ability to work alone or with others.
