Description As an Optical Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing innovative consumer products. Working within a dynamic, cross-disciplinary team, you'll contribute to every stage of product development - from conception and design to execution and testing. Your expertise will be crucial in driving innovation and solving complex optical challenges. Key job responsibilities - Collaborate with a diverse team of experts to develop high-level system architectures and define subsystem and component-level requirements - Design, model, fabricate, and test advanced optical components, diffractive elements, and projection systems - Lead rapid prototyping and characterization of optical systems in conjunction with component and product engineering teams - Validate optical architectures using both modeling and laboratory data, driving performance improvements where possible - Engage with external vendors, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to optimize design and expand manufacturing capabilities - Stay current with emerging optical technologies and industry trends, incorporating new advancements into our product pipeline Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - 3+ years of experience in consumer electronics, focusing on display light engines and diffractive optical elements - Proven track record in optical simulation, metrology, and testing at component, assembly, and system levels - Proficiency in at least one optical modeling software package (e.g., LightTools, Zemax, CODE V, FRED, TracePro, SPEOS, Lumerical) - Hands-on experience with optics component characterization and product integration Preferred Qualifications - Master's or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - Experience with MATLAB programming - Proficiency in CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks - Expertise in complex optical systems involving illumination, imaging, stray light mitigation, radiometry/photometry, and holographic/diffractive optics - Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication and lithography processes - Experience working in international, cross-functional teams - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences - Track record in mass production of optical devices Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
