Description of Position
Yavapai College is seeking a qualified, experienced, and safety-oriented Flight Instructor to join the Department of Aviation team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality flight and ground instruction to students in pursuit of FAA certificates and ratings. This role is key to maintaining a culture of safety, student success, and professionalism within our Part 61 flight training program. The position requires a variable schedule to include nights and weekends as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide dual flight instruction in Cessna 172, or other similar general aviation aircraft, for private, instrument, commercial, multi-engine, and flight instructor applicants under 14 CFR Part 61.
•Conduct ground instruction to meet FAA requirements, ensure student comprehension and retention, and complete required FAA knowledge tests. Instructors may be required to use existing training syllabi or develop original syllabi.
•Maintain accurate, timely, training records and student endorsements in compliance with FAA regulations and college policies.
•Monitor student progress and provide feedback to support their academic and flight performance.
•Uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
•Attend instructor briefings, safety meetings, and other program-related events as required.
•Communicate clearly and frequently with departmental and college leadership regarding safety, operational concerns, and student progress.
•Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet student and program scheduling needs.
•Utilize an online learning management system, such as Canvas, for course development, presentation, and management.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements
•FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII) - Airplane Single-Engine Land (ASEL).
•Minimum 250 hours dual instruction given in a Cessna 172.
•Minimum 100 hours of documented ground instruction given.
•Clean FAA record with no accidents or incidents.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Commitment to student success and safety as top priorities.
•Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
•Availability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
•Current First- or Second-Class Medical.

Preferred Skills & Abilities
•Previous experience teaching under a 14 CFR Part 61 or 141 program.
•FAA Certified Flight Instructor with Airplane, Multi-Engine Land (MEI).
•Associate or bachelor's degree in an aviation-related discipline.
•Familiarity with electronic flight training records systems.
•Knowledge of collegiate aviation operations and FAA training requirements.
•Experience with Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA).
